Abstract
Rupture of extensor tendon is characterized by an injury resulting from traumatic factors, mainly accidents with fence wires, causing partial or total disconnection of the tendons that make up the joints of the locomotor limbs, both thoracic and pelvic, of horses. Its form of treatment varies depending on the severity of the injury and may follow a surgical indication capable of obtaining good results, mainly when associated with physiatric techniques such as shockwave and ultrasound. Another extremely important form of treatment for a good prognosis is based on a good preparation of dressings and pharmacological planning. This study was based on the report of a case of a Quarter Horse mare, who was admitted to the Large Animal Sector of the Veterinary Hospital of the University of Marília – UNIMAR, for emergency treatment of a ruptured extensor tendon in the left pelvic limb. Through this study it was possible to understand more about the best forms of treatment and care, in addition to the complete description of the tenorrhaphy technique and even clinical exams such as blood counts and biochemical tests, showing how this case addressed is extremely complicated, often presenting an unfavorable prognosis.
