Plain-English summary
A 4-day-old male American paint foal was brought in because his belly was swollen, he was having trouble breathing, and he had diarrhea. After doing an ultrasound and taking a sample of fluid from his abdomen, the veterinarians found that he had a bladder rupture, which caused urine to leak into his belly. They performed surgery to fix the tear in the bladder wall. The treatment was successful in addressing the issue.
Abstract
A 4-day-old, male, American paint foal was presented for abdominal distention, respiratory distress, and diarrhea. Bladder rupture and uroperitoneum were diagnosed following abdominal ultrasonography and abdominocentesis. The defect in the dorsocranial part of the bladder wall was surgically repaired.
