Plain-English summary
This study looked at seven horses with a long-term condition called chronic tenosynovitis, which is inflammation of the tendon and its protective sheath in the wrist area. In four of these cases, earlier treatments like draining fluid and injecting steroids didn’t help. When veterinarians surgically examined six of the horses, they found clear problems that needed specific surgical fixes. The outcome of these surgeries was not detailed, but the study suggests that surgical treatment was necessary for these cases.
Abstract
Seven cases of chronic tenosynovitis affecting the extensor carpi radialis or lateral digital extensor tendon and their sheaths are described. All cases were chronic and in 4 of the cases previous treatment by drainage and local corticosteroid injection had been ineffective. Surgical exploration of 6 cases demonstrated a distinct lesion and specific surgical treatment was carried out.
