Abstract

Part 1 of this article conveyed why a team-based approach to veterinary anesthesia is essential for ensuring optimal patient care, safety, and procedural efficiency. One major factor contributing to the high attrition rate among credentialed veterinary technicians is their underutilization in clinical practice. Actively involving credentialed veterinary technicians in the development of anesthesia drug protocols, through collaboration with the veterinarian, is an effective way to improve utilization of their skills and knowledge. Part 2 describes a systematic approach to drug selection that veterinary teams can use to create balanced, patient-specific anesthesia protocols that optimize outcomes for both the patient and veterinary practice.
